"Mirle Freel's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including the Arts Chateau Museum in Butte, Montana; the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art in Great Falls, Montana; the Anna Miller Museum in Newcastle, Wyoming; the James and Meryl Hearst Museum for the Arts in Cedar Falls, Iowa; the Tucson Museum of Art and Joseph Gross Gallery at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona; the Gallery 5 Columbus Fine Art Museum in Columbus, Ohio; the W.H. JUDY O'TOOLE FREEL
In her own words, "As a self-taught artist, I am design oriented. My paintings portray geometric forms as divisions of plane using dots, space, line, shape and color. Telling stories conveying experiences often through the use of tangrams (7-piece Chinese puzzles cut from a single square) challenge me to solve problems through the imaginative process. Some pieces express my alliance and love for horses. Poetry, my first connection with the creative process, is combined with paintings to verbally express visual messages. In contrast, the poetry I write generally speaks to the more serious side of my expression. The blending between poetry and painting sets the stage for my whimsical and cerebral sides to join on common ground to pursue an understanding of and interpretation of truth. Both painting and poetry in their conjugal relationship, provide the setting for me to ponder, rethink, challenge, evaluate and hopefully smile upon the path I have walked in my quest to begin to comprehend personal truths. Visuals are relief from the rigors of written investigations into the truth. After completing a painting and poetry unit, I often extend my work to include practical pieces such as chairs and tables carrying the message of the painting and poem to the finish of the furniture canvas - thus producing a creative ensemble."
